PennDOT has been continuing their progress on the Bayfront Parkway improvement project, one of their improvements is almost completed which is adding a traffic signal at the intersection of West Bayfront Parkway and Cranberry Street in the Bayfront neighborhood of Erie. The intersection which previously had a pedestrian light that would flash if a pedestrian wanted to cross, PennDOT is hoping the new traffic signal will make the intersection a lot more safer for drivers and pedestrians. "The intersection of West Bayfront Parkway and Cranberry Street had been an issue for many years with pedestrians being unable to cross due to drivers not following the pedestrian light, hopefully this new traffic signal will make it easier for motorists coming off of Cranberry Street and pedestrians wanting to cross onto the Bayfront Bikeway." says Jill Harvey, a representative of PennDOT. Harvey also stated the light will only change when there is traffic waiting to turn on Cranberry Street, which will make traffic easier to flow. PennDOT has also been continuing with the first roundabout located at West Bayfront Parkway and Sassafras Street in the West Bayfront neighborhood of Erie. PennDOT already finished the West Front Street extension which connected from State Street in Downtown Erie to Sassafras Street in West Bayfront. PennDOT is just waiting to being construction on the second roundabout located at East Bayfront Parkway and Holland Street in the East Bayfront neighborhood of East Erie. PennDOT stated that the construction for the Holland Street roundabout should begin sometime in 2025 or 2026, while the Sassafras Street roundabout should be completed hopefully by 2025 or 2026.
