The Perry Plaza Shopping Center has lost Three Tenants in 2023
2202 Broad Street
Burton Heights
Erie, Pennsylvania

Broad Street is the main shopping corridor in the Burton Heights neighborhood of East Erie, decline in the area which began in the late 1990s has gotten worse in recent years as more stores continue to leave the shopping district due to frequent thefts and crime in the area. The first hit of bad news for the area was the closing of the CVS Pharmacy store at 1407 Buffalo Road in Burton Heights in August 2022. The CVS store has remained vacant and abandoned since then with no interested buyers. Then in 2023, the Perry Plaza has experience three tenants leaving the shopping center all at once, two of which have opened fairly recently in the past few years. Universal Smoke Shop at 2246 Broad Street, Dream Style Furniture at 2232 Broad Street and Little Caesars at 2212 Broad Street have all closed down just this year. As well as one closure in 2022 of the Boost Mobile store at 2230B Broad Street. Glazer Properties who owns and manages the Perry Plaza has told us this statement “The reason for the closures of these three stores was unfortunately due to frequent thefts which resulted in tenants pulling out one by one, it’s causing an issue for us to lease the spaces out as nobody wants to be in a neighborhood with a bad rep, it’s really affecting our company but we’re trying to get through it and work it out the best we can, our company and employees are trying their very best with everything we can do to help Perry Plaza but if the nonsense keeps up, more tenants will be continuing to leave.” The Perry Plaza currently has only eight open spaces out of nine vacant spaces and Glazer Properties also announced that a no loitering rule will be strongly enforced at Perry Plaza to try and prevent more crimes from taking place. “Last week we have put a stronger enforcing on our no loitering rule at the plaza as people are no longer allowed to be hanging out outside or standing around the stores at Perry Plaza, you must get out of your car and head to the store you are going to, Erie Police will also be enforcing this new rule as well.” says Glazer Properties.
