Elderly Man Shot Dead in East Erie

Tonight around 8:20 PM, Erie Police are currently still investigating after an 85 year old man was shot dead in the 900 block of East 21st Street near Perry Street in the Central Eastside neighborhood of East Erie. 85 year old, Douglas Richardson of East Erie was walking back to his house from Sam's Food Mart in the 500 block of East 21st Street near Ash Street in Central Eastside when he was approached by an unidentified african-american male, the male reportedly robbed Richardson of his groceries before shooting him dead on the sidewalk and taking off. Residents in the area of the 2100 block of Perry Street in Central Eastside heard about 7 loud gunshots and called 911 immediately, one resident looked out their window to see Richardson dead on the sidewalk. "My mouth was widened when I saw the man and it wasn't until I looked closer and realized it was Doug who always helped out everybody in the neighborhood." says a resident who lives on Perry Street who wishes to remain anonymous. The 900 and 800 blocks of East 21st Street between Perry Street and Wayne Street have been blocked off until Erie Police is finished with their investigation, Erie Police is also still currently looking for the male who shot Richardson and is also using helicopter patrol to look all over the East Erie area.
