One man is dead after leading Erie Police on a high speed chase throughout the City of Erie. The pursuit began when an Erie Police officer attempted to pull the vehicle over in the 700 block of West 14th Street in the Little Italy neighborhood of Erie after the pickup truck was reported as stolen. The truck then took off northbound onto Liberty Street into the Bayfront neighborhood and turned right onto West 8th Street into the West Bayfront neighborhood at a high rate of speed. The truck then ran a red light at the intersection of West 8th Street & Chestnut Street where a driver hit the truck on Chestnut causing the truck to rollover multiple times and hit three parked cars along the 300 block of West 8th Street in West Bayfront. The driver was apparently ejceted from the vehicle from not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the truck was quickly rushed to UPMC Hamot Trauma Center in Downtown Erie where they later died. The name of the driver who stole the vehicle was not released yet but age is confirmed to be around his late 20's or early 30's. The truck's owner was on the scene after Erie Police informed them of the situation, they explained to us as well as Police that their boyfriend was doing painting work inside of Wayne Park Baptist Church in East Erie and the truck was broken into and stolen from the church's parking lot in the 900 block of East 7th Street in the Bay Lights neighborhood of East Erie. Erie Police is still continuing to investigate.
