City Departments team up to tackle Neighborhood Blight

City Departments team up to tackle Neighborhood Blight Article Written: June 13, 2022 at 9:23 AM Four East Erie abandoned houses are being purchased by the Erie Land Bank as an attempt to save the houses. There is plans to demolish the homes but there is also plans to sell the homes if they are in good condition. The four homes are located in the 2600 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Diehl, 600 block of East 6th Street in East Bayfront, 1700 block of Fairmount Parkway in Burton and the 1900 block of Prospect Avenue in Burton. Most of the local residents are hoping that this will help remove the crime occuring inside these abandoned homes. "People keep breaking in the home and doing drugs in there and they keep smashing down the door." says a neighbor of an abandoned Burton home on Prospect Avenue.

Two East Erie Neighborhoods to be Redeveloped

Two East Erie Neighborhoods to be Redeveloped Article Written: June 7, 2022 at 12:42 PM Two neighborhoods in the East Erie area are going through plans by Erie City Council to add a new city park and redevelop the abandoned homes in the area. However, some city council members don't agree with the new plans. "As much as I would love to see improvement to Erie's east side, I don't agree pushing current residents out is the best idea." says Michael Keys, vice president of the Erie City Council. Plans are to add green space along with a park space being added from the 600 block of East 7th Street in East Erie to the 700 block of East 7th Street in Saint Mary. There is also plans to build new houses in Saint Mary and East Erie and make the neighborhood a more safer place to raise a family. Plans for this are to start by this year or even by next year.
