 Attempted Break-In Leads to Murder in Southeast Erie

A suspect has been charged involved in the murder of a 48-year-old East Erie woman last week. Gordon Kirkland of East Erie was involved in breaking into the woman’s home in the 1100 block of East 28th Street in Southeast Erie where he cut the victim on the neck. The victim’s family reported the victim missing after previously the day before, neighbors on East 28th Street heard screaming from the house and were concerned. Witnesses in the area reported that 45-year-old Gordon Kirkland was spotted outside the East 28th Street home around 2 am after the screaming has ceased.  Erie Police attempted to locate Kirkland at his home in the 3000 block of State Street in the Marvintown neighborhood of East Erie where he was found and charged with criminal homicide as well as first-degree murder. The evidence police found were multiple blood trails that lead to the 1100 block of East 27th Street in Southeast Erie, behind the victims house, where Kirkland reportedly attempted to break into the home and got inside where he later stabbed the victim reportedly. Erie Police stated they believe the situation was a domestic dispute after looking into messages with the victim on Kirkland’s phone. Kirkland’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 20th at the Erie County Courthouse in Downtown Erie.
