Plans to improve the Parade Street Corridor 900 block of Parade Street Saint Mary Erie, Pennsylvania |
Plans are going smoothly to improve the Parade Street shopping corridor in East Erie. The East Side Renaissance is tired of seeing Erie’s East Side keep getting ignored. “Parade Street has been struggling for a long time now as violence in the area has increased and it’s pushing businesses out and making this area abandoned, it’s been getting worse year by year and it’s about time that this deserves to change.” says Bishop Dwane Brock who is the CEO of East Side Renaissance. East Side Renaissance opened their new company office not too long ago at 1108 Parade Street in the Saint Mary neighborhood of East Erie with plans to fix up Parade Street just as the EDDC has been doing with State Street and Downtown Erie. EER also fixed up the building located next to their office in the 1100 block of Parade Street near East 11th Street as a start to their improvements. The company have also added murals along the walls of businesses on Parade Street to repair the building and received grants to demolish abandoned houses and dilapidated businesses. Recently, East Side Renaissance and ERIEBANK came up with a plan to build and open a new bank branch at an empty lot at 932 Parade Street in Saint Mary and demolish the 926 Parade Street which was once Urban Ministries. Plans also include refurbishing the building in the 914-918 blocks of Parade Street for grocery, supermarkets or other food options. ERIEBANK’s construction was approved by the City of Erie and hopes to be finished by the end of 2023 or early 2024 if no further delays occur. “This area has been a bank desert for a while and the closest bank was the First Niagara Bank on East Avenue which has long been closed down.” says Nolan Meijer of East Erie. ERIEBANK also plans to work with and help out with the East Side Renaissance with donations and help in other future projects as well.
