 Suspect Charged in Rodger Young Park Fatal Shooting

Two young men had reportedly agreed to meet at an East Erie park to fight early Sunday morning when guns were pulled and one of the men was shot dead, according to city police detectives. The accused shooter, 24 year old Michael N. Ochrang, of Erie, was in the Erie County Prison Monday morning on aggravated assault and other charges as investigators were awaiting an autopsy on the 21 year old shooting victim, whose name was not released. The autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon. Michael Ochrang lived in the 700 block of Weschler Avenue in the Bayfront neighborhood of Erie. The shooting is still under investigation. According to Erie Police, the shooting occured around 1 am Sunday morning in the parking lot of Rodger Young Park in Burton. The parking lot is located off of Downing Avenue near Buffalo Road. When Erie Police arrived, they found a crowd of people in the parking lot and the shooting victim on the ground in a pool of blood, the victim was pronounced dead at 2:26 am. After Erie Police did interviews with the witnesses on the scene, they determined that the people there were incident and were only trying to help the victim after onlookers saw the body in the parking lot. It is believed that the suspect took off once Erie Police arrived. According to friends and family members of the victim, the victim and Ochrang had been in an argument with each other for a while and they both agreed on Facebook Messenger to meet at Rodger Young Park to "settle their differences" according to the messages. Ochrang admitted to Police that he shot the victim two times, then left the gun on the hood of his vehicle. The shooting is still currently being investigated and waiting for results of the autopsy to see if the death is ruled as homicide. Another shooting did occur a block over on December 31st inside of the Metroplex Entertainment Complex located at 1843 Buffalo Road in Burton during a birthday party, the shooting was deemed a homicide and no suspects have yet to be charged. Erie Police had deemed that the Ochrang had no part in the Metroplex shooting and that shooting is still under investigation as police continue looking for the suspect.
