Local Erie Residents are going out of their way to help out a homeless couple who are living in the parking lot of the former CVS Store near Broad Street & Buffalo Road in the Burton Heights neighborhood of East Erie. Makayla & Salavador, who have been married for 3 years, became homeless after their house in the 900 block of East 26th Street in Central Eastside was condemned in July by the City of Erie for sewage issues, forcing the couple with no where else to go. "We used to live at an abandoned house and we had to leave since the City said it was uninhabitable, we moved outside the old Dunn Tire at the Perry Plaza and the owner had kicked us out." says Makayla. The abandoned they were living at for a bit is in the 2200 block of Warfel Avenue in Burton Heights. "I've brought over some dog food as well as snacks and food for Makayla & Sal" says Miranda Gospel of Millcreek Township. After a Facebook post was made about the homeless couple, many local Erie residents stepped up to help the couple.
