 Second Drive-By Shooting Incident in One Week in East Erie

Erie has been experiencing over 8 reports of shots fired in the city over a one week period and Erie Police are highly concerned of the increase of violent crime. 2 Drive-By shootings occurred in the city in the East Erie area in the past week. Last night, a man’s belt buckle saved him from any injury when his car was shot up. It happened in the 500 Block of East 7th Street near Wallace Street in the East Erie neighborhood at around 10:45 PM. Multiple callers heard 10 gunshots in the area and Erie Police found 7 shell casings location on the scene. The man told Erie Police that he had just arrived in the neighborhood when a black sedan pulled up and began shooting at his car, both cars then left the area. There was also another shooting on Saturday around 9:30 PM in the 2200 Block of Parade Street near East 22nd Street in the Central Eastside neighborhood of East Erie. A 23 year old man was shot in the chest when a car pulled up, the car then sped off onto Parade Street and the victim drove himself to UPMC Hamot and was later found he was also shot in the arm and the leg as well. Police are investigating if the stabbing on Saturday in the Central Eastside neighborhood in the 800 Block of East 22nd Street is possibly connected to the drive by shooting since it happened only 0.5 miles away from each other. Erie Police are still currently investigating the East Erie and Central Eastside crimes.
