Map of the Burton Neighborhood in Erie, Pennsylvania

The Burton Neighborhood in East Erie has seen a significant increase in gang activity in the past year. Areas like the 1700 Block of Linwood Avenue, 1800-1900 Blocks of Woodlawn Avenue and the 1800-1900 Blocks of Glendale Avenue in Burton has been having many issues with crime and gang related fights and shootings. Burton is not the only neighborhood in Erie that has a gang problem. Little Italy in the West Side of Erie also has a problem with gangs in the West 18th & Chestnut Street block. The Saint Mary & Central City neighborhoods in East Erie has also been having a gang problem that Erie Police is trying to take care of, but the crime in Burton has increased a lot mostly during the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Areas like Broad Street near the Perry Plaza in Burton Heights has been experiencing way more robberies and shootings than normal. Yesterday Night, Erie Police responded to a group fight in the 2500 Block of Cameron Road & 1900 Block of Woodlawn Avenue in Burton, there was 4 victims in the fight and they explained they were jumped by a group who claimed to be Bloods as they were walking to the Woodlawn Avenue Park on Woodlawn Avenue. Erie Police has been trying to make more frequent patrols in Burton as they can and Erie Police is thinking of doing daily police helicopter patrols around Burton to make sure the area is safe due to the increase in crime in the neighborhood.
